We tend to see out present circumstances as being fraught with change, uncertainty – and hopefully possibilities – but stressful nevertheless.

We also tend to view the past as a time of relative stability, forgetting that, at that time, we felt the same as we do now.

The lesson? Things tend to work out. But we need to focus not on the comforts of the past but on the things we did that turned out well.
